First Broken Promise

Phone call promised... never happened. He is very good at communication and keeping promises. If this is another blackout, I'm going to lose it. I hope the phones are just down due to cloudy weather.  Either way, I'm pretty sure it's not his fault.  But I hate getting my hopes up.  I had a big eventful day at orientation for my new job, and I was supposed to tell him all about it.... 2 hours ago.

Time to climb in bed with a beer and watch Friends.

I got a new job!

Hallelujah!

I am a lawyer.  And lawyers have been one of the hardest hit professional groups during this recession.  There are too many law schools, too many lawyers and too few jobs.  For the past year (since I graduated and passed the bar exam/got licensed), I worked at a mid-sized law firm.  But, alas, work ran dry and some of us newbies were laid off.

I was laid off two months before my Honey Bear deployed. That made for an interesting job search. But today, I finally got offered a job AND it is in the field I want to work! And so, at the end of the month, I will pack up my stuff and drive it off to a town 2.5 hours from here.

On an even brighter side, this move brings me 2.5 hours closer to Honey Bear when he gets home! A four hour drive is very doable, so I can see him EVERY weekend until we get hitched! ::insert moon walk::

Woooooooo!

Blackout

Procrastination...  ...I'm good at it! It's about time I get this blog rolling!

We just survived our first blackout. My dearly beloved, super sexy, man of my dreams, sensitive and considerate, yet muscly and rugged fiance is in Afghanistan. We are about 15-20% finished with our first deployment together. This is his 4th combat deployment. He was in Haiti in 2004, Fallujah (Iraq) in 2005 and Ramadi (Iraq) in 2006. He's infantry (was 0311, but once you become a Staff NCO it's changed to 0369) and seasoned, but this is still my first deployment. He will be home this summer, and our wedding is set for the end of September!

But, back to the issue. We were on communication blackout (no internet or phone) yesterday. Someone was either killed in action or badly injured, and they black out communication from the Marines in his unit until the family of the injured Marine is properly notified. Late last night, it was lifted and he was able to call me to tell me he's okay.  I don't think he was anyone I know.  I am still awaiting the DOD news release to see what company the Marine was with, because my Honey Bear hasn't yet been informed.

Anyways, sorry about the downer.  But this is deployment.  Most posts will be more uplifting! I love to send care packages. I am job hunting/possibly moving, and planning an EPIC wedding. It should be an exciting ride! There may or may not eventually be a puppy involved, as well. :)
